“Get your MEAT on!”
Beloved meat-centric restaurant in a city filled with vegetarians – LOL! Serious about nose-to-tail dining, chef Neil Clooney makes his own charcuterie and sources his animals from local farms and ranches. This here’s the real deal. Suitable both for a special occasion as well as dropping by on a weeknight for a pint and a small plate (DO try the Goat Cheese Souffle!)

“Delicious Meat-centric Menu and Great Service”
We happened upon Smithfields quite by accident while parking in a lot next door. After walking around Ashland for a while in the withering summer heat, we came back to the restaurant shortly after opening time and were immediately seated in the spare but inviting dining room. The bartender, who we later learned was also the owner, was very friendly and immediately attentive. We ordered a couple of marvelous Stella Artois draft beers and settled in to read the menu. The owner stopped by and offered helpful suggestions and even described how some of the dishes are prepared. We ended up ordering some small plates so we could check the variety of courses, all of which were well prepared and tasty. The service remained welcoming but not intrusive and the food was excellent. We heartily recommend Smithfields to anyone who likes an upscale pub atmosphere and good food and service.

“Can’t do much better!”
Smithfields is the kind of restaurant found in big cities who really know their food. Looking at previous reviewers complain about the price, there are more expensive restaurants in the valley who don’t come close to the quality and taste of the food found here. Yeah, we aren’t in a big city, but you pay for what you eat! Most restaurants don’t bring unlimited free bread. If you don’t want to pay $20-30 per person, go elsewhere. Real foodies will review this place correctly and give it an A+!

“the Best meal”
Decor has been nicely upgraded since this place was Harper’s. Perfect room with windows with a view, and a nice bar. You can see the kitchen. Comfortable. Good martinis. We ordered fries to share that were very good. One of my friends ordered fried cod balls that seemed a little dough-y, but nice and crisp. Our entrees came at just the perfect time and were perfect too. One friend has lamb, it was just right. One friend had sturgeon, just right. I had hanger steak that was out of this world! Deelish! You will like it here.

Very good food and not terribly expensive. The hangar steak I ordered was very tender; my wife’s tuna was cooked perfectly. They were some tempting and unusual items on the menu we wanted to try.

“An extroardinary culinary experience, very meat centric!!!!”
Having seen the menu online in the past, I wasn’t excited; lots of grass-fed animals that I am not in a habit of consuming….lamb, goat, duck…WELL. We showed up on a Tuesday nite after a parking spot made itself available…Some of the best food I have had in the state, not just the area. Most everything is local. The ambiance is similar to an Englsh Pub, but much more sophisticated. I ordered a Filet from Salant Family Farms. Probably the best filet I have had in a couple years. This guy starts his meat on grass but finishes with grain, so you get the best of both worlds. Had sides of mashed potatoes and chives as well as greens with garlic. My husband had duck confit with fava bean hummus. Im telling you, the food was absolutely divine. Nice wine list with local selections. We finished up with a cheese board and tawny port. Our server was attentive and charming; we traded stories of watching Diana get married, followed by Williams’s nuptials in April’ ; she was there, I wasn’t. We will be back for sure. You can come here for a very fancy meal or do a more bistro experience and still walk away full and happy!

“Best in Town”
This food is to die for. The chef has won iron chef of Oregon multiple times and uses the best local ingredients. At first we thought the food would be all meat based on the meat-centric marketing (Smithfields was named for the oldest meat market in London and there’s some neat art featured for its name), but were pleasantly surprised by the many options for veggie-lovers like goat cheese greens, asparagus salad, barking fox salad, and more. They also had the best bar I’ve seen in Ashland for choices in whiskey, scotch, and creative cocktails. Our favorite was brunch when we ordered Neil’s brekkie. I highly recommend this be your first dining spot, especially being right across the street from the Winchester Inn!

Excellent variety (if you are not a vegan) and delicious foods. I especially liked the shrimp and grits.

“Crave the roasted bone marrow”
Southern Oregon has some of the finest pork, beef and lamb in the world and Smithfields showcases them to perfection. This Chef/Owner run restaurant does it right for all the carnivores out there. Another must try for anyone visiting the area and locals favorite. Get the roasted bone marrow when your there, it is life changing.
